Puppet Techniques

As with any other form of art, it might look easy when you watch a skilled puppeteer, but do not be mistaken. If you want to use puppets professionally, you need to have a basic understanding of how to animate a puppet (and lots of training).
The workshop will be adapted to your level of knowledge (basic, advanced or master),  and the type of puppet you want to learn about: either a certain type or a whole range of different types of puppets, or even a very specific puppet you want to play.
We will train both the body and work with neutral puppets and puppets built by some of the finest puppet makers in Germany.
At the end of the workshop you will have gained an understanding of the puppet, how it functions, what the puppet “needs” and how to continue on your journey

This should help you put things in perspective and introduce you to the magnificent and mystical world of puppets!
The length of the workshop can be anything from 3 hours to several days or weeks.

Comedia dell arte

Welcome to the world of Commedia dell’arte!

Meet Arlecchino, Capitano and the Zanni!
Soon you will feel, that you have known them since your childhood. Both characters and humour seem to be timeless and have inspired countless great artists. You will get a brief introduction to the history of Commedia dell’arte. We will look into the different characters and where they are centered in the body: examine walk, gestures, reference animal, relation to other characters, function in the plot and some characteristic ideas for improvisation (Lazzi).
The specific content of the workshop depends on the time available. The workshop length can be anything from 3 hours to several days or weeks.

Puppet Building

While the workshop for puppet technic teaches you how to get the best out of an existing puppet by discovering its technical and poetic qualities and flaws, this workshop teaches you how to approach the process of building a puppet.
Depending on the time available we can either create a puppet relatively quickly or delve into some   more time consuming techniques and materials in order to build a puppet. Both results can be used effectively on a stage.

Object Theatre

The art of animating objects leads to a fundamental question: what does the puppeteer need to do to animate the fantasy of the audience?

You might be surprised how powerful object theatre sometimes can be, by cleverly using the poetic potential of an object!

And you are even more welcome to contact us for a workshop.
No object theatre workshop is like another. But each workshop is filled with pictures, and impulses to tell yet another story
